Chad cohort

A cohort of 6 refugee teachers from Sudan comprise the GERE Refugee Researcher team in Chad. 

Haidar Abakar Fedail
Haidar Abakar Fedail is a Sudanese refugee living in Iridimi refugee camp since 2004. He studied at primary and secondary schools in Nyala, and went to Oumdorman Islamic university, where he studied medical laboratory science and got a bachelor degree. He also has an advanced certificate in English, alongside speaking French and Arabic. He started working as a teacher in 2023, and in his spare time enjoys reading. He is interested in being a GERE peer researcher, because he is motivated and enthusiastic to work with other people, discovering new knowledge and helping the environment around him.
Hussein Ismail Hamid Serag
Hussein Ismail Hamid Serag is a Sudanese refugee from El-Fasher, who has been a displaced person in Otash Camp in South Darfur, and a refugee in Iridimi Camp in Chad. He and his family have lived through a period of successive displacement, loss and asylum since 2004. He is a graduate and started teaching in 2021. Hussein was previously the director of Al-Hijira Primary School, and manages of the Digital Learning Centre in Iridimi settlement. He is a fluent speaker of Zaghawa and Arabic, has advanced French and English, and basic Spanish and Chinese. He enjoys learning languages and computer science, which is his biggest dream, and is super excited to be a part of this project because it helps him to get more experience and gain knowledge and skills.
Mahamat Adam Hamid
Mahamat Adam Hamid was born in 1974 in Sudan, and currently lives in a refugee camp in Touloum, Chad. His primary, secondary and university education was in Sudan, graduating from Dongola University. He has 20 years experience in the education sector, working for the Sudan Ministry of Education from 2005-2009 and receiving training relating to child protection, girls’ education and pedagogy. He fled to Chad in mid-2009, and is now working there as a teacher having enrolled in the Institute of Professional Teachers for Basic Education in Abeche. In his free time, he enjoys reading books and playing basketball, and wants to pursue post-graduate study.
Maymoona Bakhit
Maymoona Bakhit was born in 1995 in North Darfur state, Sudan, and is currently a refugee in Touloum camp in Chad. She was accepted to study English language and translation at the University of El Fashir; due to the war, she was unable to take her certificate. She has worked in different organisations, including as a teacher and volunteer for UNDP and manager of an american center for language and translation. She hopes to join university to achieve her dreams and continue her education career. Her current role as a GERE peer researcher focuses on the inclusion of refugee teachers into the national education system,
Nazik Hammad Jedo Karkour
Nazik Hammad Jedo Karkour lives in Erdmi refugee camp in Chad, having left Sudan in 2003. She studied at the University of the Holy Quran and Islamic Sciences, Al-Alsun, Turkish Language Department in Sudan, took the baccalaureate exam in Erdmi in 2021, and has studied at the Teachers’ Training Institute in Absha. She has taught English and French language courses and computer science in the camp since 2018. Nazik likes to read cultural books and specialised books on teaching methods during his spare time. She is excited about being a peer researcher because she likes helping others, and hopes that research can help solve problems faced by refugees.
Saddam Adam Rashid
Saddam Adam Rashid is 29 years old and Sudanese. Since 2004, he has lived in Iridimi refugee camp in eastern Chad. He completed primary education in the camp, secondary school in South Darfur, and a degree in Tourism and Archaeology at Shendi University. Currently, he is pursuing higher education studies again for further development, and has three years experience teaching in a high school. He enjoys reading, exploring, and learning new things. He is passionate about becoming a researcher because he loves discovery, helping others, meeting new people, listening to their stories, and experiencing adventures. Research gives him peace of mind and purpose.
